Sweet Reactions

We weren't sure how long we would wait to tell Evie and Jackson about our new little surprise... But we sure didn't wait long! I have a very difficult time keeping FUN, GIGANTIC, SPECIAL SURPRISES a secret, especially to our very curious and intuitive little miss Evie. Too smart for her own good, this girl is! She had been questioning me and watching me like a hawk for the past several days, asking questions like, "Mommy, why are you resting so much?" and "You sure are eating a lot more, aren't you?" :) Then she found one of the several pregnancy tests I had taken (Honestly, I couldn't believe the positive tests were real, so I had to keep checking! lol!) and asked what it was. I promptly explained that it was just something for mommy. She just raised her questioning eyebrows at me. She was suspicious for sure.

I decided to take a picture of Evie and Jackson holding the sign 'Big Sis and Lil' & Big Bro', but managed to keep Evie from reading the words. However, she was extremely interested and said she needed to know what all of this was for. So, I told her that she had to wait for morning when Daddy was home, and then we would share our surprise with her and Jackson. She was, of course, ecstatic to finally be included in whatever we were keeping from her.

When we woke up this morning, first thing she wanted to know was the surprise. If you know Evie at all, you know she is like me and does not want to wait for a surprise - and Jackson is picking up on this, too! We sat both of them down and I pulled out the chalkboard sign that said 'Big Sis...' and had her read it out loud to us. She was a bit confused. I knew that as soon as I showed her the picture of me holding the other sign that read 'BABY #3 is on the way...' it would click. Sure enough, she read the letters 'BABY', smiled, started giggling, and said, "I know what that word is!" Her eyes became huge and she said how excited she was that she gets a brother or sister. Jackson, by this point, was very confused. Blake leaned over to him and told him we were going to have a baby. He smiled, humorously hid his face in the couch, then sat up and said, "Can I go watch my movie now?" :)

Immediately after Evie figured out the big news, she ran over to her paper and pens and drew the baby his/her first picture. SO sweet! Throughout the day, there have been many questions and comments on our expected new baby. Evie is very concerned with me eating enough, resting enough, and taking care of the baby. Jackson, finally wanting to talk about the baby, asked, "Mommy, can I please hold the baby when the baby is born?" I knew he cared. Evie has decided she currently wants the baby to be a boy, while Jackson said, "No way, it's going to be a girl." :)

I love my children. I love their excitement. Though they have no idea how this is going to influence and change their lives, they love the idea of having a precious baby brother or sister to help take care of. I am thankful for their joy of someone new and I can't wait to witness them love this little baby I know we will all love so much.

Evie's first picture for baby - She said it's a picture of her and the heart is the love she has for the new baby. :)
