Our Advent Calendar

Since Evie was born, we have had a make-shift Advent every Christmas season. I have randomly pulled aside favorite verses and made them suitable for her age, but I never used anything very organized. This year, since we are in our own place again and because both Evie and Jackson are understanding things a little more, I decided to put forth a little more effort with our Advent. The women in my Bible Study group wanted to spend one of our weekly get-togethers making a craft of some kind. We decided to make our own advent calendars and we got the idea of using clothes pins from Pinterest. Each calendar turned out a little differently and all of them super cute! Evie and Jackson helped paint ours and I put it together. This is how it turned out:

I organized the Christmas Story in chronological order from the books Luke and Matthew and divided it between 24 days. Each day has these verses for Blake and I to read to the kids. In addition to the verses, I chose words that represent Jesus for the kids to find/create as ornaments that hang on the clothes pins. That part has been the most fun for the kids! A few examples we have done so far are: Evie has found a small Bible, a match (represents Jesus as the Light of the World), Evie's favorite tiny angel ornament she made when she was 2 years old, and we crafted a church out of a pipe cleaner. We have many more to do, one for each day, and it is exciting to see what Evie and Jackson are going to come up with - the possibilities are endless! I love Advent and it is awesome seeing how the kids are learning to bring everything back to Jesus.
