Evie's Recent Accident

Finding a tube of Desitin diaper cream during her 'nap' yesterday afternoon, she spread it over her entire body, clothes, carpet, and dresser. Not until I heard her fall did we have any idea what she was up to. We assumed she was fast asleep from being awake all morning dealing with awful constipation. Evie falls rather often, so I thought nothing of it, besides going into her room to check on her and make sure she was okay. This time, however, I opened the door and found the Desitin all over everything and then realized that her arm looked 'funny'. Yes, our poor girl had fallen off the top of her dresser (possibly because of everything being coated with the Desitin cream and being extra slippery, but we're not exactly sure) and broke her arm! We rushed her to the ER and we're thankful to say that they got her in immediately to check out the damage. Evie did VERY well holding her arm still for a couple of hours before they actually set the bones back in place. She underwent several xrays, having an IV placed on the inside of her elbow after the first try on her hand failed, and ketamine (conscious sedation) drugs to help her deal with having her bones set. After having her bones set the first time, the xrays showed that the bones had not been set as perfectly as they needed to be. So, the hospital's orthopedic doctor came and talked to us and we all decided it would be best to reset the arm under a special live xray machine that would allow the doctor to see the bones as he set them to make sure they were perfect this time. Evie ended up having to go through a second dose of the ketamine drug, was completely knocked out, and her arm was reset perfectly. The orthopedic doctor went ahead and put a full arm cast on her arm that we'll have checked in seven days to make sure is still set correctly. It took a couple of hours for the ketamine to wear off before the hospital would discharge us, but thankfully we were home by 10 p.m. and Evie was asleep on her bed that we placed on her floor by 11 p.m. She slept through the night until 7:30 a.m. We are keeping her on Tylenol and Motrin consistently for today and tomorrow so the pain level should be bearable.

Evie with full arm cast - She's already adjusted, as you can see! :)

I'm very thankful that Blake was home when it happened and his two days off are today and tomorrow. It was pretty traumatic for all three of us, but we're praising God that He's in control of everything and that it wasn't worse and that Evie is in very little pain today. God has blessed her with amazing strength and courage!
